Cut the Cord Ritual

You know they’re wrong for you. Your nervous system is still checking for their car.

Core Intent & Mechanism

What this ritual is for

You are not trying to erase a human being from history. You are giving yourself somatic permission to stop feeding an expired attachment with your daily vitality.

What you need(4 items)

  • Two matching candles (white, black, or natural beeswax)
  • A length of natural string, cotton thread, or twine (about 10 inches)
  • A sharp pair of scissors
  • Fireproof tray or ceramic plate

Practical substitutions

You don't need to buy specialty supplies. Use what's in your home.

  • If you cannot burn two candles, tie the string between two pens or stones on a desk and cut the cord between them.
Ceremonial Execution

Step-by-Step Instructions

01

Position the poles

Set the two candles roughly six inches apart on the tray. Designate the left candle as yourself. Designate the right candle as the other person or the past chapter.

02

Bind the tether

Tie one end of the twine around your candle, and the other end around theirs. Notice how the cord sags and pulls. Recognize the invisible debt of attention that has connected you.

03

Speak the severance

Light both candles. Take the scissors in your dominant hand. Take a deep breath. Look at the tether and say: 'I retrieve my attention, my time, and my peace. What was yours remains yours. What is mine stays mine.'

04

Make the cut

Snip the string dead center with one clean cut. Do not let the string burn uncontrollably across the candles—the power is in YOUR deliberate physical cut. Extinguish their candle immediately. Let yours burn down safely for another ten minutes.
